If you are moving long-term or temporarily, you may want to set up mail forwarding with USPS. This will ensure that you never miss any important mail which is sent to your old address. If you are going to be doing this, you should note that there are 2 different forwarding address services available and you will need to complete different USPS forwarding address forms.

Regular Mail Forwarding

Most people will choose regular mail forwarding when they move. This service by the USPS will forward mail and packages to your new postal address. When you use this service, your mail will be forwarded as and when it arrives at the post office, but there is a limit to the amount of time that you can use the service for. submit form now at USPS  website for regular mail forwarding.

Regular mail forwarding can be used for as little as 15 days or as long as a year. If you are going to use the service for a year, you will need to request the service for 6 months and then extend it for a further 6 months. It is not possible to use regular mail forwarding for more than 1 year.

To request regular mail forwarding, you can complete the online form which is also the change of address form with the USPS. One the form, there is a section for mail forwarding which will ask about the type of move and the start and end dates for the service. It is important to note that there is a $1 fee for the use of the online form. If you want to avoid the small fee or do not have access to the USPS website, you can retrieve a form from your local post office and complete it there.

The Premium Forwarding Service

The USPS also offers you a premium forwarding service for a greater fee. This service can also be used for a limited time only of a minimum of 2 weeks and a maximum of 1 year. The primary difference with this service is that the USPS will hold all of you mail for a week and then send it to the new address with Priority Mail.

Mail forwarding

To use this service, you will need to pay an enrollment fee of $19.35 when completing enrollment at the post office or $17.75 when you enroll online. You will then have to pay a fee of $19.35 each week that you use the service. You mail will be packaged and sent out each week on a Wednesday and a tracking number will appear in your USPS online account. You will also receive a notification in the account when there is no mail being sent in the week.

To enroll for this service online, you will need to have a USPS online account. You can also go to the local post office to complete the forms needed for this service. If you are going to do this, you need to be ready to pay the enrollment fee at the post office. Contact us for information.
